Run-D.M.C.

Unemployment at a record high / People coming, people going, people born to die / Don’t ask me because I don’t know why / But it’s like that and that’s the way it is.

Run-D.M.C. were an American hip-hop group formed in 1982 in Hollis, Queens, New York, by Joseph Simmons (Run), Darryl McDaniels (D.M.C.) and Jason Mizell (Jam Master Jay). Pioneers of 1980s hip-hop, they revolutionized the genre with stripped-down beats, powerful rhymes and an iconic look defined by hats, gold chains and Adidas sneakers. With albums such as King of Rock and Raising Hell, they brought rap to a mainstream audience and helped break down the barriers between hip-hop and rock through their groundbreaking collaboration with Aerosmith on Walk This Way. Their influence transformed the music and style of an entire generation. The murder of Jam Master Jay in 2002 marked a tragic turning point in the group’s history. In 2009, Run-D.M.C. were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
