Aura
Tecniche di Resistenza alla Serialità

Aura

From the spread of industrial printing to the age of digital consumption, seriality has shaped every aspect of our experience: first through mass reproduction, then through endless feeds and entertainment content conceived in seasons and episodes.

In this visual assembly line, the image is everywhere and nowhere, multiplied endlessly and consumed to the point of indifference. As Walter Benjamin might say, it has lost its Aura, the “here and now” that guarantees its uniqueness, distance, and mystery.

This project is an attempt to resist the drift of seriality by sabotaging it from within through an analogue glitch, using the artisanal printing technique of Gelli printing, in which the printing plate is destroyed and altered with every impression.

The gel plate loses the original image but retains the chromatic ghosts of previous passes, accumulating residue and embracing smudges and tears. Each artwork is destined to exist as a single, unique, unrepeatable piece, thereby reclaiming the uniqueness of its Aura.

There is no “next episode” button, no archive, no replica. Through an act of gentle resistance, the icons of mass culture and entertainment portrayed in these works are torn from the flow of serial reproduction and restored to the uniqueness of imperfection and the unexpected.

The collection will be on public display from November 4 to December 12 at Dada, Via delle Forze Armate 410, Milan. If you're in the area, stop by for a Gin and Tonic or a Negroni and enjoy the prints.

In questa catena di montaggio visiva, l’immagine è ovunque e in nessun luogo, moltiplicata all’infinito e consumata fino all’indifferenza.

My name is Simone Lippolis. I live and work in Italy and I've always been fascinated by images, printed matter, and visual storytelling. After many years working with digital design, I recently discovered gel monoprinting and started using it as a way to create more tactile and imperfect artworks.
