Barack Obama (born in 1961) is an American politician and author who served as the 44th president of the United States from 2009 to 2017, becoming the first African American to hold the office. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to a Kenyan father and an American mother, he studied at Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he became the first African American president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. After working as a community organizer in Chicago and entering politics in Illinois, he was elected to the United States Senate in 2004. Running on the slogan “Yes We Can,” he won the presidency in 2008, promising change and renewal. During his two terms, he faced the global financial crisis, introduced a major healthcare reform, and helped restore diplomatic relations with Cuba. In 2009, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Nato a Honolulu, nelle Hawaii, da padre keniota e madre statunitense, studiò alla Columbia University e alla Harvard Law School, dove divenne il primo afroamericano presidente della prestigiosa Harvard Law Review.
