Brian May (born 1947) is a British guitarist, songwriter and astrophysicist, best known as a founding member of Queen alongside Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor. His distinctive guitar style and the unique sound of his handmade Red Special helped define the band’s musical identity. He wrote some of Queen’s most famous songs, including We Will Rock You, The Show Must Go On and Who Wants to Live Forever. Passionate about astronomy from an early age, he interrupted his studies to pursue music before completing a PhD in astrophysics at Imperial College London in 2007. He is also active in science communication and animal welfare. In 2023, he was knighted by the British monarchy.
