Monica Vitti was one of the most important figures in Italian cinema, known for her unique blend of dramatic intensity and sharp comic timing. Born in Rome in 1931, she became internationally famous through her collaboration with director Michelangelo Antonioni, starring in influential films such as L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), L’Eclisse (1962), and Red Desert (1964), which defined modernist European cinema. In the late 1960s and 1970s she reinvented herself as a brilliant comic actress, working with directors like Mario Monicelli and Ettore Scola in popular comedies such as The Girl with the Pistol (1968) and Dramma della gelosia (1970). Her expressive voice, ironic style, and versatility made her one of the most beloved and influential actresses in Italian film history.
